About the Show: The groundbreaking musical that set the stage for all that followed! Rodgers & Hammerstein’s exuberant classic is a lively, tuneful musical full of cowboys, farmers, romance and fearless optimism
Available Roles (The Lake Worth Playhouse encourages people of all races, abilities, and genders to audition for the roles they most identify with.):
Curly McLain (Baritone, Age 25-35): He is a handsome, strong, rough-hewn, clever cowhand in love with Laurey, but refuses to admit it.
Laurey Williams (Soprano, Age 25-35): She is spunky and smart with an air of innocence about her. She lives with her Aunt Eller on a farm and is in love with Curly, though she may not admit it.
Aunt Eller Murphy (Mezzo-soprano, Age 50+): She is rough with a fair heart which makes her a leader in the community. Good values and a sense of humor. She raises Laurey as her own.
Ado Annie Carnes (Soprano Belter with E, Age 25-35): She is Andrew Carnes’ daughter; she “Can’t Say No” to anyone. A comic romantic lead, she is wooed by Ali Hakim, but she also has feelings for Will Parker.
Will Parker (Tenor, Age 25-35): A cowboy that is smitten with Ado Annie. He has a bright comic appeal. Will Parker must be able to dance.
Judd Fry (Baritone, Age 45-55): Judd is a farmhand on Aunt Eller’s and Laurey’s farm. He does not fit into society well. He has some dark secrets and is feared and treated as an outsider by some. He has feelings for Laurey and will do anything to get her.
Ali Hakim (Age 25-50): A traveling peddler who says he’s from Persia (present-day Iran). Though we aren’t sure how much of what he says we should believe. He has an eye for the ladies. The role calls for a clever comic actor; a believable accent is encouraged.
Judge Andrew Carnes (Age 50+): He is the overprotective father of Ado Annie; he thinks Will Parker is “no good” and defends the honor of his daughter with his ever-present shotgun.
Gertie Cummings (Age 25-35): Gertie is an obnoxious loudmouth girl with a “unique” laugh. She has eyes for Curly making Laurey jealous.
Ike Skidmore (Tenor, Age 30+): He is the owner of the ranch where the box social is held.
Cord Elam (Age 25-35): Is the Federal Marshall in town.
Ensemble Roles: Farmers, Cowhands, Wives, Friends of Laurey, Children. Large singing and dancing ensemble with numerous small roles and speaking parts. Males and females of all ages are required.
There are many other speaking, singing, and ensemble roles.
