In “A Christmas Carol,” Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by four ghosts: Jacob Marley, Christmas Past, Christmas Present, and the Spirit of Christmas Yet to Come. Confronted with his own mortality and the dire consequences of his selfish, penny-pinching behavior, Scrooge transforms into a kind and generous individual. He reconciles with his nephew and neighbors and even becomes a father figure to his assistant’s son, Tiny Tim.
