Matilda Auditions

Audition Dates: Saturday, February 7, from 12:00 – 4:00 pm
Monday, February 9, from 7:00 – 10:00 pm

Where: The Lake Worth Playhouse – 713 Lake Ave, Lake Worth Beach, Florida 33460

Audition Requirements:

Prepare 16–32 bars of a musical theatre song in the style of the show. Bring sheet music (an accompanist will be provided). Karaoke tracks are acceptable as long as they are fully cued prior to entering the audition room. A Bluetooth speaker will be available. Be prepared to read from sides and participate in a movement/dance call.

About the Show:

Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical tells the story of an extraordinary young girl with a brilliant mind and a powerful imagination. Unloved by her cruel parents and bullied by the terrifying headmistress Miss Trunchbull, Matilda finds friendship, courage, and her own inner strength as she stands up for what’s right. Filled with high-energy dance, clever humor, and unforgettable songs by Tim Minchin, this Tony Award–winning musical celebrates bravery, imagination, and the power of being different.

Available Children Roles:

Matilda Wormwood (10–14): Exceptionally bright, brave, and strong-willed, Strong singing voice and excellent acting ability, Must be comfortable with large amounts of dialogue.

Bruce Bogtrotter (10–14): Confident, comedic, and bold strong stage presence and character acting.

Lavender (10–14): Matilda’s best friend; kind, curious, and playful, Good singing voice and acting ability.

Eric (10–14): High-energy troublemaker, Confident mover with comic instincts.

Amanda Thripp (10–14): Sweet, expressive, and confident, strong character acting.

Hortensia, Alice, Tommy & Other School Children (10–14): Strong ensemble singers and dancers. Must be able to follow choreography and work well as a group.

Ensemble – School Children (10–14): Must enjoy singing and dancing. All children will have featured moments.

 

Available Adult Roles:

Mrs. Wormwood: Must be a great dancer. This is intentional and part of the comedy.

Miss Honey: Warm, gentle, and sincere; strong acting and singing ability required.

The Escapologist: Should have the ability to move well. Gymnastics or acrobatic skills are a bonus. Will also double as other adult ensemble roles.

The Acrobat: Should have the ability to move well. Gymnastics or acrobatic skills are a bonus. Will also double as other adult ensemble roles. May also double as The Nurse in “Miracle.”

Rudolpho: Must be a strong dancer. Will also double as other adult ensemble roles.

Adult Ensemble / Understudies: Seeking skilled ensemble performers to double across multiple roles and participate in high-energy choreography and group vocals. Roles include Crunchem Hall students, Parents and townspeople, Party guests and ballroom dancers, School staff and authority figures. Also, Seeking 1–2 adult women to complete the adult ensemble. Will understudy Miss Honey and Mrs. Wormwood.
