The Nether Auditions

Lake Worth Playhouse announces auditions for The Nether, a haunting and provocative play that explores morality, identity and responsibility in an immersive virtual world.
Audition Dates: Monday and Tuesday, September 14 – 15, from 7:00 – 10:00 pm
Callbacks (by invitation): Wednesday, September 16

AUDITION SIGN-UPS
VIDEO SUBMISSIONS
Actors are asked to sign up for the evening of their choice. Registration begins at 6:30 pm, and auditions will start promptly at 7:00 pm with a discussion of the play, followed by cold readings from the script. Actors should be prepared to attend the full three-hour audition window.

Audition Requirements:
– No prepared monologue is required. Actors may be asked to read for more than one character.
– The script will be accessible on the audition page. Please read it in advance and be prepared to discuss the play and its material at auditions.
– Headshots and résumés are welcome but not required.
About the Show:
In a near-future world of fully immersive virtual reality, a detective investigates a disturbing online realm where fantasy and crime collide. As the truth unfolds, The Nether explores morality, identity, and the consequences of our darkest desires in this gripping, award-winning sci-fi thriller by Jennifer Haley.
The Nether contains mature themes and sensitive material. All actors should read the play before auditioning.
Available Roles Include:
Detective Morris — Female, 30s–40s
A determined investigator questioning the boundaries between fantasy, morality and criminal responsibility. Intelligent, controlled and relentless.
Sims/Papa — Male, 40s–60s
The creator and proprietor of an immersive virtual realm. Articulate, commanding and deeply committed to defending the world he has created.
Doyle — Male, 50+
A quiet, seemingly ordinary science teacher whose involvement in the Nether reveals a profound and complicated inner life.
Iris — Female, 18+
Appears approximately nine years old. Seeking an actor age 18+ or older who can convincingly portray a young girl.
A visitor to the virtual realm whose intentions and identity gradually come into question. Sensitive, conflicted and emotionally complex.
