CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS FOR KIDS
FALL 2024
Registration forms and code of conduct are required for all students under the age of 18.
ACTING FOR KIDS (AGES 8 – 14)
September 9 – December 9 (12 weeks)
No classes 10/14 and 11/28
5 PM – 6 PM on Mondays
TEACHER: Trish Weaver Rhodes
TUITION: $250
Acting for Kids will focus on acting basics and theatre skills, including monologues, scene work, basic ideas of ensemble acting, theatre vocabulary, theatre etiquette and theatre games. The session will culminate in a showcase open to family and friends.

MUSICAL THEATRE TEENS (AGES 13 – 17)
September 4 – December 11 (14 weeks)
No class 11/27
5 PM – 6:30 PM on Wednesdays
TEACHER: Elizabeth Robinson
TUITION: $300
Musical Theatre Teens will explore all elements of a musical theatre performance, focusing on character motivation, vocal technique and using choreography to bring the music to life. This class will also include introductions to different schools of acting such as Stanislavski and practical aesthetics. The session will culminate in a showcase open to families.

MUSICAL THEATRE KIDS (AGES 7 – 12)
September 5 – December 12 (13 weeks)
No classes 10/3 and 11/28
5 PM – 6:30 PM on Thursdays

AUDITION PREP WORKSHOP (GRADES 4 – 5)
December 7, 2024
11 AM – 2 PM on Saturday
TEACHER: Beverly Blanchette
TUITION: $125
Join us for an Audition Workshop with Beverly Blanchette, retired Dean of Theatre for Dreyfoos School of the Arts, for students planning to audition for Dreyfoos School of the Arts or any performing arts program. The workshop intensive will act as a “mock audition” for the students.
The workshop will include practice in cold reads, scenes, songs, improvisation, & re-directs. The students do not need to prepare anything in advance. Everything will be provided there.
The body should be completely covered to allow for freedom of movement. No shorts or skirts.
Each student will be assessed on his/her potential as a theatre student. We apply the audition criteria to the whole child rather than to simply past training/experience or presentational skills. The student’s goal is to listen, follow directions, and freely express his/her creativity as a theatre student.
Students will be evaluated on the criteria as listed below:
- Voice and Movement (Acting Exercise and Cold Reading or Song)-Demonstrates an ability to express a character vocally and physically in a way that matches what the actor can learn from the script or songs
- Ensemble-Demonstrates teamwork through an ability and willingness to collaborate, listen, and react to create a believable scene together.
- Responsiveness to Coaching-Demonstrates an ability to take direction and use it to change, correct, or enhance the creation of a believable character/scene onstage. Creativity/Theatrical Awareness-Demonstrates an ability to have ideas, explore possibilities, make discoveries, and make effective choices to create character, place, and situation.
Parents/guardians may join the class during the last 15 minutes for demonstrations and questions.
AUDITION PREP WORKSHOP (GRADES 7 – 8)

3 PM – 6 PM on Saturday
TEACHER: Beverly Blanchette
TUITION: $125
Join us for an Audition Workshop with Beverly Blanchette, retired Dean of Theatre for Dreyfoos School of the Arts, for students planning to audition for Dreyfoos School of the Arts or any performing arts program. The workshop intensive will act as a “mock audition” for the students.
The workshop will include practice with songs, monologues, interviews, re-directs, & improvisation. Please come with written copies of the material to be performed with accompaniment on phones or CD’s. The students will benefit more from the workshop if they are completely “off book” & know their lines and lyrics.
The body should be completely covered to allow for freedom of movement. No shorts or skirts.
Parents/guardians may join the class during the last 15 minutes for demonstrations and questions.
