Audition Requirements:
– Please prepare approximately 32 bars of a song in the style of the show. Singing from Falsettos is welcome but not required.
– No accompanist will be provided. Please bring a karaoke or instrumental track that is downloaded, cued and ready to play. Please do not rely on Wi-Fi or streaming services during your audition.
– Headshots and résumés are not required. If you have them, please bring them with you.
– Auditioners may also be asked to read from the script and participate in a movement call.
– All roles require strong musicianship. Falsettos is almost entirely sung and features complex harmonies, overlapping vocal lines and emotionally demanding material.
About the Show:
Set at the dawn of the AIDS crisis, Falsettos follows Marvin as he attempts to create a new kind of family with his ex-wife, his young son, his psychiatrist, his male partner and the “lesbians from next door.” Told through a funny, intelligent and deeply moving score, the musical explores love, identity, parenthood and what it means to make a family.

Casting:
Lake Worth Playhouse is committed to inclusive and nontraditional casting. Performers of all races, ethnicities, gender identities and backgrounds are encouraged to audition. Character ages are flexible and indicate the general needs and relationships of the roles rather than strict requirements.
Available Roles Include:
MARVIN
Vocal Range: C3–B4
A strong, versatile tenor or high baritone.
A smart, complicated and sometimes self-absorbed man struggling to hold together the different parts of his life. He loves his family but often fails to understand the impact of his choices. Requires an excellent singer-actor with strong comic and dramatic instincts.
WHIZZER
Vocal Range: E3–C5
A strong, expressive tenor.
Marvin’s charming, confident and athletic partner. Independent and magnetic, with humor and emotional depth beneath his seemingly carefree exterior. Requires a charismatic performer capable of handling both the joy and heartbreak of the role.
TRINA
Vocal Range: B3–E5
A strong mezzo-soprano with a powerful belt and excellent vocal flexibility.
Marvin’s ex-wife and Jason’s mother. Intelligent, anxious, funny and emotionally overwhelmed as she attempts to rebuild her life and create some sense of stability. A demanding musical and dramatic role requiring exceptional comic timing and vulnerability.
MENDEL
Vocal Range: C3–B4
A character tenor or high baritone with strong comic instincts.
Marvin’s psychiatrist, who becomes romantically involved with Trina. Warm, neurotic, well-meaning and frequently awkward. A gifted comic role with genuine emotional depth.
JASON
Vocal Range: G3–D5
An unchanged or treble voice with a clear, confident upper register.
Marvin and Trina’s bright, observant and precocious young son, approaching his bar mitzvah while trying to understand the complicated adults around him. Seeking a confident young performer with strong singing and acting abilities. Must be comfortable handling sophisticated material and mature themes.
CHARLOTTE
Vocal Range: F3–F5
A strong alto or mezzo-soprano with warmth, power and control.
A doctor and one of the “lesbians from next door.” Intelligent, grounded, compassionate and direct, with a dry sense of humor. She becomes an important source of strength for the family. Requires a strong vocalist and mature actor.
CORDELIA
Vocal Range: A3–E5
A bright mezzo-soprano with strong harmony skills and comic flair.
Charlotte’s partner and a professional caterer. Warm, energetic, affectionate and delightfully enthusiastic—although her cooking may not always live up to that enthusiasm. Requires strong comic instincts and a generous stage presence.
